FTTH Operator OEN Launch 20/20 Internet Access

Hoping that its vision of customer bandwidth needs is focused, FTTH triple-play service provider Optical Entertainment Network Inc. (OEN) has announced a 20-20mbps high-speed Internet access that can be bought standalone or with other IP services.

The symmetric service is one of the fastest such offerings in the country, the company said, and was driven largely by first-hand custom experiences in beta tests during which customer paid a high premium for extra Internet bandwidth for uses such as gaming.

OEN operates a FTTH network in Houston and already offers FISION, its triple-play bundle, to residences, businesses and multidwelling units.

20/20 Internet costs $60 a month extra if you buy OEN’s Luxury Platinum pack, $70 extra with the Super Platinum pack and $80 extra with the operator’s Platinum package. The service can be bought standalone for $169.98 a month.

"We are able to offer 20/20 Internet access because our offering is fully optimized for fiber-to-the-home,” said OEN President and CEO Al Estrada. “We do not use RF Insert technology but rather a purely digital IP connection into the home so there is no compression or bandwidth constraint."

OEN said FISION IPTV signals are not digitized or compressed at the headend, providing top picture quality, with the unlimited bandwidth of FTTH technology enabling the company to offer a large channel lineup with more than 85 premium networks and 40 HD channels and numerous niche channels.

All FISION triple-play packages include more than 260 channels as well as up to 10mbps Ultimate Internet complimented with commercial grade VoIP featuring unlimited calling to the United States and Canada as well as caller-ID, call waiting and a find-me-follow-me feature at no additional cost to subscribers.

OEN found that beta users were willing to pay for extra and symmetric Internet access for gaming, with the capacity designed to eliminate latency problems that have plagued operators whom don’t provide big pipes to the home.

Soaring use of multiplayer, interactive gaming via the Internet is expected to drive demand for higher access speeds, with Microsoft Corp. expected to hot general availability for its IPTV software for the Xbox 360 by yearend.
