Verismo POD Brings YouTube to TVs

12/24/2008

Internet TV box vendor Verismo Networks and video mega-site YouTube have partnered to provide broadband subscribers the ability to watch millions of YouTube videos directly on the TV using the $99 VuNow PoD.

The palm-sized device pushes (streams) content from the computer to the television, letting users experience the enjoyment of watching and sharing the latest videos on big screen TVs. It’s physically connected to the TV, like a DVD player, but not to the PC.

Users can browse, search, and select Internet content with their remotes.

They can also log in to their YouTube accounts directly through the TV to access their videos, channels and playlists. Using VuNow's built-in search interface and a soft keypad, the vendor claims, they can rapidly search for videos by partial or complete keywords, or browse YouTube categories such as Featured Videos, Top Rated, Most Viewed, and more.

"The television is a terrific medium for watching and sharing videos with friends or family," said Prakash Bhalerao, CEO of Verismo Networks, in prepared comments. “Our goal is to keep expanding the entertainment and options for our customers."

Verismo did not say if there is a revenue generation element of this capability for YouTube and/or beyond sales of the PoD.

Verismo Networks is now selling the VuNow Pod directly to consumers online.
