Surewest Upgrades FTTH Multiservice Gateways
11/03/2008
Advanced remote diagnostics and built-in home networking support are driving service innovator SureWest Communications Inc. (SURW) to upgrade the Allied Telesis Inc. multiservice gateways in its fiber-to-the home (FTTH) network in its Sacramento, Calif., serving area. Allied Telesis has provided Intelligent Multiservice Gateways (iMGs) to SureWest for FTTH since 2004. After extensive testing and field trials of the iMG600 MOD, SureWest has chosen this 4th generation of iMG. “Allied Telesis’ gateway reliability offers a significant OPEX benefit and savings for broadband providers,” said SureWest senior vice president and chief technology officer Bill DeMuth. “Two additional benefits of the iMG MOD that appeal to us are the integrated HPNA and its extensive remote diagnostics. In addition to decreasing install times, the iMG MOD reduces truck rolls for in home wiring issues. Both are significant factors in gaining new subscribers and maintaining long-term customer relationships.” SureWest’s triple play is delivered over an FTTH network supporting 100 mbps of bandwidth to a customer’s home. Products delivered over this network include HDTV, multistream HD DVR service, symmetrical Internet speeds of up to 10, 20 or 50 mbps, and an interactive VoIP phone service with more than 22 features.
