Qwest Updates FTTN Effort

Qwest Communications International Inc. (Q) today said its ambitious $300 million fiber-to-the-node (FTTN) deployment effort is ahead of schedule, with the carrier planning to provide additional guidance on the effort in its third quarter earnings call on Oct. 29.

The broadband access project has already passed over one million homes, according to a spokesperson for Qwest. Company CEO Ed Mueller announced the effort over a year ago. The project generated sizable attention, given fiber deployment strategies outlined and detailed by operators such as AT&T Inc. (T) and Verizon Communications Inc. (VZ).
