Motorola Upgrades DOCSIS 3.0 Home Gateways

10/27/2009

Motorola Inc. is going after the personal media proposition in the home with a new set of W-Fi-enabled SURFboard DOCSIS 3.0 modems and integrated gateways that enable data rates up to 300mbps downstream and more than 100mbps upstream.

Those speeds enable advanced multimedia services, and are made possible because the gateways support high-bandwidth Gigabit Ethernet home networking and channel bonding of up to eight downstream and four upstream channels.

The new SURFboard all-in-one integrated gateways also are equipped with a four-port GigE switch and integrated 802.11n Wi-Fi access point, plus a built-in firewall with Stateful Packet Inspection, intrusion detection and Denial of Service attack prevention. It also has a simplified "visitor" feature set, enabling users to easily accommodate addition of their "permissioned" guests onto the home's Wi-Fi network, while still protecting the network from unwelcome hacker attacks.

"With the introduction of our new line of next-generation SURFboard modems and gateways, Motorola continues to demonstrate its global leadership and expertise in developing and deploying DOCSIS-certified solutions," said Alan Lefkof, corporate vice president and general manager, Motorola Broadband Home Gateways and Software Solutions Group. "Our new SURFboard integrated gateways demonstrate Motorola's commitment to delivering high-value, lower-cost-of-ownership solutions, in one convenient and reliable package."

The gateways are standards-based and manageable remotely.
