Mobile Internet World 2008 Innovation Awards Presented

MIW Awards were presented in four categories.

xchange magazine and Trendsmedia, the events and publishing division of Yankee Group, presented the Mobile Internet World 2008 Innovation Awards to four distinguished recipients Wednesday night at the Mobile Internet World Conference & Expo in Boston. The annual awards recognize leaders in the development and deployment of mobile Internet technology.

The Mobile Internet World 2008 Innovation winners are:

  • Most Innovative Consumer Mobile Internet Application – TeleNav for the TeleNav GPS Navigator, a completely portable navigation system with the functionality of an in-car system. Runner-up was Nuance Communications for Open Voice Search mobile speech recognition technology.
  • Most Innovative Consumer Mobile Internet Deployment – Nubiq Ltd. for Zinadoo Site Creation product for creating and sharing mobile Web content. Runner-up was TeleNav for the TeleNav GPS Navigator.
  • Most Innovative Enterprise Mobile Internet Application – LogMeIn Inc. for LogMeIn Rescue+Mobile remote technical support for mobile devices, PCs and Macs. Runner-up was Akim Technologies for its mobiSiteGalore mobile Web site builder.
  • Most Innovative Enterprise Mobile Internet Deployment – Obopay Inc. for Obopay, the first money transfer service system created exclusively for the mobile phone. Runner-up was TeleNav for the New York City deployment of the TeleNav Track GPS-enabled mobile business management system.

Zinadoo won Most Innovative Consumer Mobile Internet Deployment for its Zinadoo Site Creation and LogMeIn won Most Innovative Enterprise Mobile Internet Application for the LogMeIn Rescue+Mobile.

Award winners were recognized during a ceremony following the close of the Mobile Internet World expo floor. Eliot Weinman, president of Yankee Group, and Tara Seals, senior editor of xchange, presented the awards. The winners will be featured in the Jan. 2009 issue of xchange magazine and on the Web sites of both Mobile Internet World and xchange.

Award nominations were open to all providers and vendors of mobile Internet technology and applications. Winners were selected by an independent judging panel consisting of Craig Mathias, principal, Farpoint Group; Zeus Kerravala, senior vice president of Enterprise Research for Yankee Group; Caroline Gabriel, lead research analyst, Rethink Research; Andy Mitchell, Bell Canada; Rich Buttiglieri, usability consultant, Design and Usability Center, Bentley University; and representatives from xchange and Trendsmedia.

“xchange is pleased to once again be part of recognizing mobile Internet innovative excellence,” said Mike Saxby, group publisher of xchange. “In such a fast-pasted industry as mobile Internet, it is vital that these companies be lauded for their commitment and accomplishments.”
