Actiontec Launches DSL Gateways for Triple Play Bundles
11/10/2008
Actiontec Electronics today unveiled a new line of triple-play VDSL2/ADSL2+ Universal DSL Wireless Gateways designed to provide carriers up to 100 mbps downstream and upstream for the delivery of faster high-speed data, HDTV, and VoIP services. The gateways do so over copper access lines which the vendor contends enables carriers to deploy services via any access architecture including central-office DSLAM, remote DSLAM, or FTTx, and, any access protocol. Actiontec will showcase the new Universal DSL Gateway at the TelcoTV 2008 show this week. The Universal DSL Gateway uses Broadcom’s PhyR impulse noise protection and physical layer retransmission technology to enhance bit error rates and latency for better IPTV performance. Actiontec says PhyR technology can yield a ten-fold improvement in impulse noise resilience and up to a 15 percent service reach improvement, enabling carriers to improve their IPTV and high speed data services and extend their network service area. The universal gateway integrates an ADSL2+/VDSL/VDSL2 modem, a four-port Ethernet switch, a 802.11b/g/n wireless router and firewall into a single device. The vendor claims the advanced processing power lets the device simultaneously support HDTV, standard TV, voice over WiFi, media sharing, and online gaming, concurrently. In addition to standard Ethernet and WiFi connectivity, the universal gateway provides enhanced networking options for distributing premium content, such as multiple HD video streams, throughout the digital home. Support for MoCA and HPNA3 home networking schemes enables high-quality, in-home distribution of HDTV and other content over existing coaxial cables to set-top boxes or other video appliances.
