ATIS Releases IPTV Requirements
05/25/2006
ATIS, a technical planning and standards development organization made up of dozens of companies, on Thursday published its requirements for IPTV architecture and digital rights management (DRM). “By developing these requirements, ATIS has created the industry road map for IPTV network architecture and defined what is needed to deliver a quality IPTV experience,” said ATIS President and CEO Susan Miller. IPTV Architecture Requirements (ATIS-0800002) defines, in broad terms, the scope of IPTV services and identifies the high-level requirements that will guide the development of architecture specifications over time. The architecture document focuses on services that may comprise IPTV; the functions necessary for content providers to deliver content to service providers; functions required by service providers and network providers to offer IPTV; and the home-networking functions necessary for the consumer to receive IPTV services. The second document, the IPTV DRM Interoperability Requirements (ATIS-0800001), defines the requirements for the interoperability of systems and components in the IPTV DRM/security environment. These requirements will be used by ATIS to create an IPTV DRM/security interoperability specification. ATIS will share its requirements documents with other IPTV standards organizations to ensure full interoperability for network and service providers, and consumers. ATIS www.atis.org
