ITU Forms IPTV Focus Group

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) said today it is creating a focus group that will work on international standardization for IPTV.

The consortium said a number of companies back the effort, agreeing the market needs a set of standards to abide by so there is no fragmentation among service providers, broadcasters, ISPs and others in the industry. The group will hold its first meeting in June.

ITU representatives said the standards will encourage innovation, help reduce service complexity, guarantee quality of service and ensure interoperability.
