Calix Closes Optical Solutions Deal, Intros Auto-Detect GPON ONT

Having just completed the acquisition of GPON vendor Optical Solutions, Calix today unveiled a new family of 2.4gbps GPON optical network terminals (ONTs) that can be upgraded from 622mbps BPON, and to faster speeds, without a truck roll.

Calix executives said the new 700-Series of ONTs “shatter prevailing operational cost models associated with FTTP deployments” by eliminating the need for service providers to revisit customer premises when customers want to upgrade bandwidth.

Auto-detect optics within the 200mbps capacity ONTs allow interoperability with both BPON and GPON OLTs, so subscribers can be upgraded from 622mbps BPON to 1.2gbps or 2.4gbps GPON.

The FSAN ITU-T BPON- and GPON-compliant ONTs include optional integrated HPNA, an integrated IAD to allow use of standard telephone sets, and support both IPTV and RF overlay video services. These ONTs are compatible with the Calix C7, Calix F5 (formerly FiberPath 590) and Calix FD (formerly FiberDrive 500) gear, but can also work with third-party OLTs.

These boxes provide two or four POTS lines and one or two 10/100 Ethernet connections. And, for business services, they can support transparent LAN and two DS1 ports.
