Intel Uses TowerStream Service for Demos
08/25/2005
Intel Corp. this week used fixed wireless broadband provider TowerStream’s service to support demonstrations at its Intel Developer Forum in the Bay Area. The demonstrations required wireless Internet over the last mile from TowerStream's antenna on top of Nob Hill in San Francisco. One demonstration used the 8mbps connection to play a high-definition movie clip stored on Intel's servers in Oregon. "This demonstration [showed] businesses that wireless broadband can currently support any application, and that WiMAX will change broadband as we know it," says Jeff Thompson, COO of TowerStream. TowerStream is one of four U.S.-based carriers working with Intel to enable WiMAX, and will begin commercial WiMAX trials based on Intel silicon products later this year.
