Tropos Networks has boosted the capabilities of its Wi-Fi mesh architecture and renamed the product Tropos MetroMesh.
Tropos MetroMesh OS and Tropos Control release 4 will be generally available next month. They are offered at no additional charge to existing Tropos Networks customers with valid technical support subscriptions, Tropos says.
The new software, when combined with Tropos Networks' MetroMesh routers, allows each group of users on a metro-scale Wi-Fi mesh network to have its own virtual network with its own address space, security encryption mechanisms, access control and classes of service, all administered independently from other user groups.
All aspects of each virtual network can be centrally monitored and managed using the Tropos Control element manager, Tropos says.
MetroMesh's lets various departments – such as police, fire, emergency services, building inspections and public works – on a municipal network have its own network. It also administers each network separately from the others with different access and security policies. The network also can be opened for public access.
