TowerStream Launches Broadband in Chicago

04/06/2004

TowerStream this week launched high-speed, fixed wireless Internet access in the Chicago metropolitan area.

The company says its service is a precursor to WiMAX, a new technology that many consider the next generation of Wi-Fi.

From its PoP atop the 1,100-foot Aon Center (formerly the Standard Oil Building) in downtown Chicago, TowerStream has established a wireless ring over the city, allowing businesses within a 10-mile radius of the PoP to receive the service.

In addition to Chicago, TowerStream currently serves more than 600 businesses in Boston, New York City and Providence/Newport.

TowerStream's Chicago customers have a range of bandwidth options to choose from, including T1, T3, 100mbps connections and higher. The fixed wireless broadband network delivers high-speed Internet access supporting VoIP, bandwidth on demand, wireless redundancy, VPNs, disaster recovery, bundled data, and video services. Companies utilizing multiple appliances simultaneously, such as streaming video and VoIP, can prioritize their bandwidth.
