Whether it's e-commerce, video streaming or storage, businesses are demanding greater bandwidth. To meet these growing needs, carriers are building out metro Ethernet networks. It's none too soon. Carrier Ethernet services for businesses are expected to grow to $24 billion by 2010, according to analysts from Vertical Systems Group.
Rather than lease lit services from the incumbents, many carriers are finding the economics of lighting dark fiber attractive. It gives them more control over capacity and coverage and the flexibility to choose the architecture -- Ethernet over SONET, DWDM or native fiber - that best matches their needs.
Sourcing dark fiber from metro providers can be hit and miss, but some savvy carriers are finding results with an alternative source: utility networks. In many markets, the local power company has built out a fiber network that offers greater density than most of the telco installations and over a diverse route.
Find out about the advantages of using utility networks in your metro Ethernet deployment in this free Webinar sponsored by xchange, SRP Telecom and COMPTEL.
