JDSU Introduces DSL Field Test Solutions

06/19/2007

Test and measurement solutions provider JDSU has introduced the HST-3000, a modular handheld DSL test unit, and a jitter/wander module for the T-BERD/MTS-8000, a field solution for measuring 2.5/2.7G SONET/SDH jitter.

The products are being showcased at NXTcomm.

The HST-3000 can test across all available frequencies – ADSL2, ADSL2+, VDSL and VDSL2. By providing a 30 MHz (VDSL2) copper test option for the test needs of field technicians who install and maintain VDSL access networks, the HST-3000 enables the deployment of higher bit-rate triple-play services, including IPTV and HDTV.

The HST-3000 capabilities allow packet capture of live VoIP calls, including VoIP call storage and an integrated FTP capability to send captured VoIP calls to be analyzed by JDSU’s PVA-1000 software. JDSU said the HST was created to improve efficiency and lower the costs of installing, maintaining and troubleshooting business and residential services and networks. The HST-3000 combines copper, voice and data service testing features with process automation capabilities in a lightweight, battery-operated unit.

The company said the HST-3000 is the only handheld telecommunications service tester licensed to support Nortel's UniStim VoIP protocol, providing users the ability to troubleshoot and test the features and capabilities of Nortel's IP desktop telephones, and also provides licensed test support for vendor-specific versions of IPTV such as MSTV.

JDSU also announced a jitter/wander module, available as a complement to existing T-BERD/MTS-8000 transport modules, which is engineered to address the bandwidth demands being placed on metro networks by the deployment of triple-play services.

The 2.5/2.7G SONET/SDH jitter module for the T-BERD/MTS-8000 supports the production needs of network equipment manufacturers as well as the installation and operations requirements of service providers, including cable and wireless operators installing and maintaining carrier-grade Ethernet networks.

JDSU’s 2.5/2.7G jitter/wander solution is compliant to ITU-T O.172/O.173 and provides the full set of jitter measurement capabilities – jitter generation, automatic jitter tolerance, and automatic jitter transfer, which help during the design, manufacturing and commissioning of SDH/SONET/OTN systems.

The company’s T-BERD/MTS-8000 is a scalable field platform for installing and maintaining short-haul, long-haul, FTTx, Metro, CWDM, transport, data and DWDM networks. Advanced modularity enables the T-BERD/MTS-8000 to integrate options for video microscope, VFL, light source, power meter and optical talk set with application modules for SONET, SDH, Ethernet, multimode and single mode OTDRs, PMD, spectral attenuation, CD, WDM, and single-port and dual-port OSA.

Compatibility with more than 10,000 field-proven units already deployed worldwide by every major telecommunications network operator enables easy migration to new network technologies while continuing to reduce expenses, the company said.
