Grande Employs Next-Gen Tellabs System, Increases Service

Grande Communications announced it is upgrading its network with the Tellabs 7100 optical transport system to provide next-generation capabilities to carriers using transport circuits within Grande’s network. The upgrade will concentrate on the demand for advanced wholesale phone and data transmission services in the south-central United States and Mexico, Grande said.

The Tellabs system uses ROADM switching technology, enabling Grande to provide wholesale customers with wavelength and bandwidth services from OC3 to 10G. It features 44-channel capacity, expanding Grande’s current coverage network capacity and providing a core infrastructure platform that could support 100G channels in the future. The system enables Grande to reduce transport costs and respond quickly to changing customer needs in the company’s 25-site, 3,000-route-mile Texas SONET-ring network that extends from Dallas to the Rio Grande Valley and back, with connections to Arkansas, Louisiana and Oklahoma, plus terminations to Mexico.

“By using Tellabs network equipment in our unique coverage area, we’re bringing carriers’ elevated product offerings for Ethernet and private line services on a network with exponentially larger bandwidth capabilities and significantly faster intervals for turn-up,” said Jeff Brennan, senior vice president of business services for Grande.
