Fujitsu Ships the Industry’s First Commercially Available 5.8GHz WiMAX SoC

Fujitsu Microelectronics America Inc. announced at WCA that it is now shipping its 5.8GHz WiMAX baseband system-on-chip (SoC). It’s the first commercially available SoC for fixed WiMAX implementations in the 5.8GHz band, the company said.

The silicon maker already is shipping the chip to ODM partners and customers worldwide, including Texas Instruments, WiMAX systems provider ORZA Networks and WiMAX customer premises maker Sun Create Electronics Co. Ltd.

The 5.8GHz WiMAX SoC can support full base station designs as well as subscriber unit implementations, and is based on the existing Fujitsu SoC, which supports frequencies ranging from 2GHz to 11GHz in both licensed and unlicensed bands.
