OpVista Adds ROADM Interface Card
Khali Henderson
06/09/2006 OpVista Inc. announced at GLOBALCOMM it has added a ROADM interface card to its OpVista2000. The RIC extends OpVista’s single wavelength reconfigurability to existing DWDM systems. “We can take any fixed OADM and add reconfigurability,” said Dawn Hogh, vice president of marketing. She said this gives carriers with first and second-generation DWDM systems the ability to “get into video without ripping out their existing infrastructure.” “Broadcast video does not need reconfigurabilty, but others do like video on demand,” she said. Specifically, OpVista’s RIC can deliver a broadcast and select/drop and continue architecture to existing DWDM infrastructure, which is the key to cost-effective video service delivery. The company’s own DWDM system, the OpVista2000 delivers an any-to-any architecture by making all wavelengths available at all sites. Its S-ROADM feature, enables operators to provision a single wavelength as opposed to paying upfront for 8 or 32, which is common for many ROADMs, said Hogh, explaining this allows for incremental reconfigurability since some services don’t need it. Hogh said single wave granularity means operators done’ have to pay a capex premium to reduce their operating expenses by adding reconfigurability. OpVista Inc. www.opvista.com
