Global Crossing Chooses Infinera, Juniper Products
06/06/2006
Global Crossing has made deals with Infinera and Juniper Networks Inc., looking to those vendors to help it build out its digital optical network and its IP network backbone. Global Crossing will use the Infinera DTN to enhance the speed and flexibility of its digital optical network. Initial deployment already has started in the southeastern United States. Global Crossing plans to add the Infinera DTN to other U.S. regions later this year. “Infinera’s solution enables us to deliver new services quickly and economically, as well as respond to the present and developing needs of our customers as they cope with the challenges of industry consolidation and IP convergence,” said Jim Watts, Global Crossing’s vice president of global transport engineering. The Infinera DTN combines scalable DWDM, reconfigurable optical switching, and GMPLS-based service intelligence in one platform, and delivers 100gpbs of DWDM capacity on every line card, according to Infinera. Global Crossing also has chosen to use Juniper Networks’ T-series core routing platforms in its IP network backbone. To address the future needs of its high-capacity customers and growing demand for 10-gigabit Ethernet services, Global Crossing is supplementing its infrastructure with 10-gigabit capabilities in the core, the carrier said. By deploying a core infrastructure that includes Juniper T-series, Global Crossing's network can continue to scale with customer demands. Global Crossing already uses the Juniper Networks M-series platforms, which support applications such as VoIP aggregation and peering. Global Crossing www.globalcrossing.com
