Veraz Unveils ControlSwitch with Prepaid Functionality

Veraz Networks Inc. on Monday announced a scalable, IMS-compliant solution with an integrated prepaid-capable application server, to speed the deployment of new mass-market services.

Service providers now can use the vendor’s ControlSwitch softswitch for IMS-compliant deployments of new services, including enhanced messaging services and voice over broadband, for postpaid and prepaid user accounts. An integrated user portal with access to a downloadable softclient allows the service provider to avoid deploying an onsite integrated access device.

Integrating prepaid support with an application server facilitates allows service providers to target new market segments with differentiated service offerings and pricing models, without the need for credit checks.

“Wireless operators have shown us that offering prepaid services can be an effective way to target new market segments and generate new revenue streams,” said Brian Partridge, senior analyst at the Yankee Group. “An integrated prepaid solution offers fixed operators an efficient way to deliver prepaid pricing models and expedite the roll out of new voice and multimedia services.”

ControlSwitch is part of Veraz’s overall open standard IMS service-based architecture. During the migration to an all IMS network, the Veraz ControlSwitch supports hybrid voice and multimedia networks; the ControlSwitch integrates with both traditional narrowband voice-centric access networks and new IMS compliant infrastructure.

The ControlSwitch modules support the core IMS functionalities, including the Proxy, Interrogating and Serving-Call Session Call Control Function, as well as the Home Subscriber Server and Breakout Gateway Control Function, are being enhanced with IMS-compliant interfaces. In addition, the Veraz AS Application Server now supports both offline and online charging functions as defined in IMS.
