Gefen Wirelesses Extends HD

Using proprietary technology from Amimon, Gefen Inc. at CES this week is presenting its new Wireless DVI/HDMI Extender prototype. The wireless transmitter receiver supports cable-free extension of high definition video up to 1080i resolutions.

The sender/receiver system, unlike previous prototypes, uses radio-based frequency transmission to send HDCP compliant HD video up to 10 meters (30 feet) from source to HDTV display. No cabling is required to achieve a perfect replication of image and sound on the receiving end, the company said.

It is designed to provide a cutting-edge alternative to cable-based extension solutions for home theaters and other small size environments.

The company plans to begin shipping in the third quarter of 2006.
