Unisys, Nortel Anchor Separate IPTV Integration Offers

11/09/2005

A handful of IPTV vendors this week at TelcoTV are participating in an interoperability demonstration on the show floor. But this is more than just a demo, says Comtrend’s Andrew Morton, general manager of North and South America, explaining the Unisys is now offering this end-to-end setup as an outsourced solution to service providers.

Getting various IPTV equipment to work together can be “a mess,” he said, so Unisys is preintegrating these pieces for service providers that don’t want to put together the puzzle themselves.

Involved vendors include bitband with its video server; Comtrend’s residential gateway; Infogate Online’s IPTV content and management system; Irdeto’s content security solutions; Juniper Networks’ gear; Occam Networks’ broadband loop carrier equipment; and optibase Video Innovations’ encoders.

In a separate effort, Nortel this week announced it will act as an equipment provider and integrator for an end-to-end IPTV solution that also includes middleware from Minerva Networks and Orca Interactive; video on demand gear from BitBand and Kasenna; content security solutions from Irdeto; encoders from Harmonic and Optibase; a Web browser interface from Espial; digital program insertion from Terayon; and emergency alert system from Trilithic; xDSL modems from Westell; and set-top boxes from Amino.
