TVN Looks to Widevine to Help Prevent Digital Piracy

TVN Entertainment at TelcoTV said it will use Widevine Technologies’ Mensor technology to provide content protection and digital forensics solutions in its VOD lineup.

TVN says it will use Mensor to embed TVN and operator-specific watermarks into VOD content. TVN can track distribution and make sure its content is being used according to licensing agreements.

“With digital piracy an ever-present threat to popular commercial media, it is critical that we deploy the most effective systems to protect and track content distributed across our network," says Dom Stasi, TVN’s CTO. "Widevine Mensor enables us to continue acquiring premium content for our growing list of VOD affiliates, including cable, telco, broadband and wireless video distribution partners. Together TVN and Widevine are bringing the same type of forensic marking that has been used to deter theft of Hollywood screeners and first run DVDs to video-on-demand content."
