Dartware Upgrades InterMapper Monitoring Software

05/26/2005

Dartware LLC, a provider of real-time network monitoring tools, this week at ISPCON announced the InterMapper 4.3, a new version of its network monitoring software for ISPs. InterMapper and WISPerMapper, a version of InterMapper designed for wireless ISPs, monitor data networks and alert network managers when problems arise. The software is a cross-platform application, running on Windows, MacOS X, UNIX and various Linux distributions.

There are several new features in the software. First, it imports and exports geographic data via a tab-delimited file that contains information about the devices to monitor. If the import data file has latitude and longitude information, InterMapper will place the device icons automatically in the proper position on the map.

Next, the upgraded version also can monitor NT services on remote computers and alert the network manager when one or more of the services has stopped.

There is a new interfaces window that shows detailed information about each router or switch, and allows the operator to hide or show the individual interfaces on the map.

Further, InterMapper has an enhanced display of custom icons. The system enables drag-and-drop importing of icons and icon sets, and the icons are tinted to match the device state when failures occur. For example, red stands for failure, and orange and yellow indicate alarms and warning states.

There also are new probes for the Barracuda Spam Firewall; WISPerMapper contains probes for the most popular manufacturers of wireless equipment.

Finally, the changes exploit new facilities in the MacOS X 10.4 ("Tiger") operating system.
