Viola Networks Unveils NetAlly RealTime, Performance Assessment and Management for Real-time Converged Networks

Viola Networks, a provider of IP network performance assurance and assessment software, unveiled a new network performance management platform at SUPERCOMM, specifically designed to address the unique needs of real-time converged networks. The new system, NetAlly RealTime, will provide service providers, systems integrators and enterprises a tool for pre-service network readiness assessment, on-demand network troubleshooting and ongoing network performance monitoring required by real-time applications such as VoIP and IP-based video conferencing.

NetAlly RealTime was developed to ensure a high level of ongoing network performance when the network must support both legacy applications and newer real-time applications such as IP telephony and video.

"More and more enterprises are gaining efficiencies by deploying converged networks that support both traditional data applications and real-time applications such as voice and video," says Zeus Kerravala, vice president of enterprise infrastructure at the Yankee Group. "But there's a catch: These networks present new and complex performance management challenges.”

Delay, jitter and packet loss can have dramatic effects on real-time applications such as voice and video, making those applications unusable.

NetAlly RealTime offer testing technologies, troubleshooting tools and network assessment capabilities for real-time applications in one tool.

Service providers that are delivering managed services such as IP Centrex can use the platform to more easily deliver and guarantee voice quality of service. Also, system integrators that are managing an enterprise's outsourced data network can now easily monitor, assess and troubleshoot voice traffic over that network to guarantee quality of service.

Enterprise customers that manage their own networks can use NetAlly RealTime to assure network quality - both prior to application deployment, on an ongoing basis and when networks change, such as when new equipment and/or applications are installed.

NetAlly RealTime also features a Web-based network measurement component that functions on the machines of end users, to track both WANs and LANs to the end user desktop, and works through firewalls.

"Viola Networks is continuing its approach of paying close attention to its customers' present and future requirements and developing solutions that comprehensively address those needs," says John Rooney, president of Viola Networks. "Enterprises implementing real-time applications on their networks, such as voice over IP, are quickly seeing direct savings in lower toll call charges and an increase in employee productivity - thus giving them a competitive edge. Our mission is to ensure that these benefits will continue to accrue by enabling enterprises, service providers and systems integrators to assure the performance of real-time applications across existing or converged network enterprise infrastructures.”

NetAlly RealTime will be available in the third quarter of 2003, with pricing to be determined. It will be offered on a licensed basis to service providers.
