Avici Systems Inc. will announce this week at SUPERCOMM a new family of software-programmable linecards is available. The linecards will enable carriers using its Multi-Service Connect MSC core routing platform to converge multiple services such as frame relay, voice, ATM, and IP services over IP/MPLS networks.
“Providing support for legacy services is something we always wanted to do,” says Esmeralda Swartz, director of marketing of Avici Systems, noting the company also offers packet over SONET line cards in addition to gigabit Ethernet and 10 gigE line cards. “You have to support the traffic that is already in place with these accounts. No carrier is going to throw away the investment they’ve already made in these networks.” The new line cards, available starting this quarter, will be priced at $200,000 each.
