Zhone: MTS Allstream Win is Bellwether for North American Market
05/13/2008
Canadian service provider MTS Allstream Inc. will use Zhone Technologies Inc.’s multiaccess line concentrator (MALC), the vendor said today. MTS Allstream already was using Zhone products in its access voice network. It next needed a next-generation access platform to deliver voice and data services to residential, SMB and enterprise customers. Michael Strople, vice president of technology development for MTS Allstream, said the fact that Zhone’s product supported a range of services interfaces on one system clinched the decision to go with Zhone. “The MALC’s packet voice interface and our national IP core make this technology particularly effective for MTS Allstream,” Strople said. Zhone reported it has been making “calculated and strategic strides in Canada,” growth it considers significant since the Canadian market has been tracking roughly 12 to 18 months ahead of major U.S. players in technology adoption and requirements. “We see our win as a bellwether of things to come in the broader North American market where carrier grade packet voice is concerned,” said Mike Scheck, vice president of international sales for Zhone. “We are very bullish on the MSAP market opportunity we see globally as well.”
