WiMAX World: Vendors Show MultiBand Interop
10/01/2008
What’s a standard worth without network interoperability? Not much. And that’s the motivator behind the multiband, interoperable WiMAX demo network created by Airspan Networks Inc., Starent Networks Corp. and Fujitsu at WiMAX World 2008, which is being held in Chicago this week. The idea is to create a seamless network consisting of base stations operating on different frequency bands interconnected by an Access Service Network (ASN) gateway using open-standard interfaces developed by the WiMAX Forum. The demonstration uses Airspan's HiperMAX base station operating at 3.65 GHz, the Fujitsu BroadOne WX300 macrocell base station operating at 2.5 GHz, and Starent's Multimedia Core Platform ASN Gateway.
