WiMAX World: Bridgewater Bolsters WiMAX MVNOs

10/01/2008

Bridgewater Systems announced MVNO back-office enablement services for WIMAX operators, at WiMAX World 2008 this week.

Bridgewater lets carriers sign on third-party operators to offer private-label services over the underlying WiMAX network, while managing the complexity of subscriber management functions for them, such as authentication, authorization and the streaming of accounting records for billing reconciliation. Carriers also can support their own retail subscriber services with the system at the same time.

For those MVNOs who prefer to manage their own subscribers, the underlying carrier can use Bridgewater to provide a WiMAX-compliant front end to them that supports WiMAX-specific subscriber management requirements. As a result, MVNOs can leverage their own subscriber management infrastructure but do not need to invest in upgrading to meet stringent WiMAX requirements for EAP, mobile IP and other functions such as lawful intercept.
