Verizon Business Releases VoIP Enhancements

12/04/2008

Angling to provide flexibility for enterprises, Verizon Business is expanding the reach of its VoIP offerings and making efforts to ease deployment with a series of portfolio enhancements, announced on Thursday.

For one, Verizon has announced a new VoIP Interoperability Lab where customers can test drive the compatibility of their premise equipment with Verizon’s VoIP or IP Contact Center products on their own, instead of waiting for Verizon to certify what they have or having to purchase Verizon-certified CPE. A company can self-test virtually any piece of equipment, for example, an IP PBX or a session border controller, during a two-week trial period, using a basic Internet connection.

Meanwhile, Verizon has also certified a new IP PBX as fully compatible with its VoIP products: the Nortel Communications Server 1000 Release 5.5. This is a cornerstone of Nortel’s unified communications platform.

The carrier is also expanding globally, with new availability in Europe of automatic call rerouting for IP trunking and integrated access customers for business continuity. The service has been expanded from the U.S. to include the United Kingdom, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Spain, Ireland, Italy and Sweden.

This “Inbound Failover” feature automatically forwards calls to another IP address in the event of unforeseen circumstances. Customers also can leverage load-balancing capabilities that enable them to distribute traffic between IP terminations.
