Verizon Business today unveiled a new security service for applications. The Application Log Monitoring and Management Service is slated for global availability starting next month.

The service – based on customer premises-based appliances from LogLogic – enables customers to efficiently log, track and analyze user and system activity of operating systems, Web servers and database servers so

they can take action against threats and attacks and can support security compliance requirements. According to Cindy Bellefeuille, director of product management, this allows customers to avoid the costly and time-consuming effort of building, maintaining and monitoring an in-house log management infrastructure.

Verizon Business also offers with the service reports supporting security compliance requirements, including Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS), Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), ISO 17799 and COBIT 4.0. And customers are able to quickly access the security logs for auditing purposes.

Operating Systems supported by the Verizon Business service include Microsoft Windows, Sun Solaris, IBM AIX, Redhat Linux and HP UNIX. Supported Web servers include Microsoft IIS and Apache. And it works with

Oracle RDBMS and Microsoft SQL Server databases.

Customers have the option of selecting between monitoring only and fully managed options. The service, which comes in standard, premium and platinum levels, starts at $2,500 per year per log management appliance for monitoring only.
