COMPTEL: USCarrier Telecom, Southern Light Form Interconnect Partnership
02/25/2008
USCarrier Telecom (Booth 712) has formed a strategic interconnect partnership with Southern Light LLC. With interconnections in Mobile, Ala., as well as Panama City and Pensacola, Fla., the two companies will tie together USCarrier’s 3,400 route-mile high-capacity Southeastern fiber-optic network with Southern Light’s 1,800 route miles of fiber-optic backbone in four states along the Gulf Coast. First, Southern Light leased a 2.5G Wave from USCarrier, extending its fiber network to meet USCarrier's network between Pensacola and Panama City. Next, the companies completed implementation of a DS3 between Mobile and Montgomery, Ala., in December 2007. Both companies currently are providing traditional TDM bandwidth services at speeds between DS1 to OC192, Ethernet services up to 10G, and optical and IP services to their customers. The partnership will allow each company to expand these services across both networks. “As a result of this alliance, USCarrier has a tremendous opportunity to increase revenue as their network expands westward along the Gulf Coast, and it will also broaden the footprint of the DDR Broadband partners, which include USCarrier, PalmettoNet, Access On and Valley Net,” said Jack Roberts, vice president of sales for USCarrier. “Because Southern Light and USCarrier have similar histories and business philosophies, this synergistic relationship is critical in achieving our growth projections for 2008.” Eric Daniels, COO of Southern Light, added, "Southern Light's last-mile capabilities and speed of deployment along the Gulf Coast coupled with USCarrier's ability to rapidly provision long-haul circuits across the Southeast makes a lethal combination that would be difficult for anyone else to match. This also substantially increases the reach of our Ethernet backbone across the Southeast, which has been challenging for other IXCs to accomplish."
