Twitter Grows 131 Percent in One Month
04/16/2009
Twitter is tweeting itself to the top. The microblogging site saw an increase in users of 131 percent in the month of March, up to 9.3 million. News addicts may be to thank for the big surge. Market analyst comScore says there’s a big overlap between people who use Twitter and the big online news sites, like CNN. You’ve probably noticed Twitter becoming a pretty hot topic in many circles, and that includes mainstream news. Speaking of CNN, the network Wednesday acquired the @cnnbrk Twitter account. What does that mean, exactly? Surely good news for both businesses. It’s the biggest account on Twitter, where nearly 950,000 people have been following it. No financial details were disclosed. Just to show how popular the news-Twitter crossover really is, the CNN account ranks higher than actor Ashton Kutcher’s account, which is in second place, and the third place account, which is Britney Spears’ Twitter home.
