NXTcomm: TIA Offers ‘Green’ Help to Members
06/19/2008
The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) said this week it’s investing in green initiatives for the global electronics industry. The move adds value for members as they continue to respond to worldwide environmental and regulatory issues affecting business, Grant Seiffert, TIA president, said on Wednesday at NXTcomm. Initiatives include EIATRACK, TIA’s subscription-based Web service that provides benchmarks of environmental and product-oriented regulatory tracking and analysis; and the organization’s E-cycling Central Web site that features a new state-by-state database of more than 2,000 electronics recycling locations in the United States. The legal expertise provided by EIATRACK alone is worth “millions,” TIA said, especially as the cost of compliance just with European regulations is estimated to be nearly $1 trillion. Not complying can cost companies upwards of $50 million, TIA said. To that end, then, the EIATRACK comes with more than 100 international jurisdictions as well as in-depth analysis.
