Tech Support or Managed Home Network Services?

01/05/2009

While a few telcos inched into the tech support arena for residential customers this past year, many signs point to the real opportunity being in managed home network services.

With remote monitoring and management capabilities for carriers extending beyond the Broadband Forum’s original TR-069 specification, it stands to reason that they can do more from afar, rather than expend valuable staff resources via truck rolls to customer dwellings.

Carriers have already met with big financial success providing managed network services to enterprise customers and are expected to try and duplicate that performance on the home front.

And there’s always the half-way option of carriers pairing with a retail chains IT gang to provide more than just installation. One large cableco, Comcast Corp. (CMCSA) announced a partnership for installs with Best Buy at the NCTA Cable Show last May.
