Symmetricom Unveils TimeProvider 500

06/04/2008

Symmetricom Inc. this week unveiled the TimeProvider 500, an access timing device based on the Precision Time Protocol (PTP) IEEE 1588 v2 standard.

The translator system lets operators transition to IP backhaul, such as Gigabit Ethernet, without disrupting network synchronization at the base station.

PTP and Ethernet

The use of the PTP standard means carriers can synch different devices in an Ethernet network while maintaining service levels supported by TDM networks.

The TimeProvider 500 has two T1/E1 outputs to synchronize equipment in wireless base stations, street cabinets and remote terminals.
