Report: Sprint Leaves NGMN Alliance
07/18/2008
Sprint Nextel Corp. (S) seems to be on a rocky road of shifting alliances. The struggling wireless carrier reportedly has exited the Next Generation Mobile Networks Alliance (NGMN), which it helped found in 2006. The NGMN works with standards bodies to understand the technologies operators will need “in the decade beyond 2010.” But the group apparently didn’t adhere to its technology-neutral roots, so Sprint is moving on – it’s sticking with its WiMAX network build-out that was slated for a commercial launch in April but that has been postponed to this fall.
