Sprint Confirms Nextel Assets Intent

Sprint Nextel Corp.'s (S) Dan Hesse has come clean: The struggling wireless provider is indeed open to selling Nextel, despite insistence last month to the contrary.

This week, CEO Hesse admitted Sprint has fielded “significant interest” in the iDEN assets. Any buyers, however, likely would be hamstrung by the difficult credit markets. Besides, Hesse said, a Nextel sale isn’t Sprint’s only option ... he didn’t expound except to express optimism over the pending Clearwire Corp. deal.
