Speakeasy Brings Business Hosted VoIP to iPhone
10/20/2009
Speakeasy has extended its hosted VoIP service to the iPhone. The EasyVoice Mobile app acts as a gateway to users’ Speakeasy-powered business VoIP phone system. The app offers free calling to 22 countries (in certain rate lists) and the integration of Speakeasy’s remote office functionality. Key features include the ability to use one number to make and receive calls, integration with iPhone contacts, instant access to voicemail, full call history for the business line, and one-click access to office phone functionality, like the ability to place calls on hold, set the do not disturb function and transfer calls to another number or voicemail. Speakeasy says the motivation for the development of the app is to stay in line with the way people work and play these days: the line between business and personal communications is increasingly blurry. “The iPhone is increasingly functioning as both a personal and business phone, and we wanted our customers to have access to an application that helps them stay connected to the office wherever they go,” said Bruce Chatterley, Speakeasy CEO, in a statement. “EasyVoice Mobile extends the features, value and savings to the iPhone that our customers have come to depend on with Speakeasy hosted voice.” The iPhone has seen a proliferation of VoIP clients lately, including a Vonage app. The trend will likely continue, considering that iPhone carrier AT&T Inc. recently opened up its 3G network to VoIP applications for the device. And, mobile VoIP in general is a growing area: Research firm In-Stat projects that by 2013, mobile VoIP applications will generate annual revenues of $32.2 billion, driven by over 278 million registered users worldwide.
