Swirling Rumors: Google Is Cutting Jobs

A report from WebGuild says Google Inc. (GOOG) is cutting staff and could eliminate as many as 10,000 positions.

“Since August, hundreds of employees have been laid off and there are reports that about 500 of them were recruiters for Google,” according to the WebGuild story, which notes that Google is legally required to report layoffs but that it has somehow gotten around those requirements.

However, while reporting on the WebGuild story, a piece from PC World and Network World noted that “cutback rumors have surfaced at Google before, only to end up holding little to no actual truth.”
