Rough Months in Store for Telecom Suppliers

11/15/2008

As expected, telecom suppliers are headed for bad times. Industry experts late this summer told xchange that recession would hit telecom vendors in early 2009 and they were right.

Now, MarketWatch, in a spot-on analysis, reports that the global economic slowdown is going to slam companies such as Nokia (NOK), Motorola Inc. (MOT) and Ciena Corp. (CIEN). Those firms say their customers aren’t stopping spending, just pushing it farther out, as analysts had projected.

It’s an insult-to-injury scenario. Most telecom businesses have struggled with competition and bad mergers, and this financial crisis could, if they don’t strategize properly, mean their demise.
