Overture Grows Green Initiative
11/19/2008
Carrier Ethernet equipment provider Overture Networks has announced several initiatives that the company has implemented as part of its efforts to reduce its carbon footprint. That includes a new environmentally friendly packaging solution for its ISG product line that is lighter, smaller and creates less waste. The packaging is Styrofoam-free and uses at least 30 percent recycled materials, with 30 percent less overall volume than previous packaging. The streamlined boxes, which now weigh 7 percent less, allow Overture Networks to pack 40 percent more units on each pallet, reducing transportation costs and the energy needed to deliver its product line. The company has done away with electro-static discharge bags as well, using the recycled plastic in the packaging itself for electro-static control. In addition, Overture Networks has eliminated in-box paper documentation, which can instead be downloaded quickly and easily from the company’s Web site. The company also has extended its environmental-impact reduction efforts beyond its packaging process, bringing its green program into nearly every aspect of the business.
