Nth Air, Fujitsu Get Democrats Wired with WiMAX
08/21/2008
Two companies are teaming up to make sure the Democratic National Convention stays connected. Nth Air, a provider of next-generation wireless communication services, and Fujitsu Network Communications, a supplier of optical and wireless networking solutions, have announced a new partnership. The companies have launched the Nth Air wireless broadband solution across Denver for delivery of high-capacity video, voice and data services. The WiMAX network is available for the 5,000 delegates and more than 15,000 members of the media at the convention. “Reporters or city officials and their staff members may simply not have time to head back to their hotels to file stories or transmit important information to each other,” said Craig Niemeyer, chief executive officer and president of Nth Air. “By subscribing to our WiMAX service, they’ll receive high-speed wireless Internet access directly from the convention center with the same kind of connectivity they’d get with their own networks at the office.” The fixed point-to-multipoint network will provide broadband wireless Internet data, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and video services for businesses and municipalities who can subscribe to the service during the convention and not be locked into a long-term contract. WiMAX-compliant point-to-point connectivity is also available to connect users staying at different hotels in wide area network configurations. The Fujitsu WiMAX solution that Nth Air purchased operates in the 3.65 GHz spectrum, which the companies say is ideal for quickly deploying wireless broadband services to rural or underserved markets. The convention runs from Aug. 25 to Aug. 28.
