’Nortel’ Bill Discussion Delayed Again

12/04/2009

Discussion of a bill that would protect employees when their company goes bankrupt has been pushed back again in Canada’s House of Commons.

Inspired by the bankruptcy and subsequent crisis for former Nortel Networks workers, the bill aims to protect disability and health benefits when an employer files for bankruptcy. A similar bill aimed at protecting pension benefits was tabled last month.

One lawmaker told the House of Commons that her office has been inundated with calls from former Nortel workers who support the bill.
