Is Nokia Siemens Cutting or Transferring Europe Jobs?
11/11/2008
Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) (NOK) is terminal. The joint venture said today it has entered “the final stages” of – get this euphemism – “headcount restructuring.” Gotta love corporate-speak. Anyway, 20 NSN employees in the United States will lose their jobs, but the most pain will be felt by workers in Germany and Finland. There is conflicting information, however. A number of outlets are calling the 1,820 job cuts just that. But another source points out that NSN says workers will be transferred to “trusted partners,” not laid off. Huh? NSN already has slashed 6,000 jobs.
