New Mexico PRC Slaps Qwest, SkyWi’s Hands
01/09/2009
State regulators in New Mexico on Thursday scolded both Qwest and SkyWi, a Southwest regional ISP, for “[forgetting] about the primary interests of their customers.” The commission ordered SkyWi to let customers know within 10 business days if they were going to lose their Internet service. But the company claims the commission doesn’t have the authority to issue the order. New Mexico-based SkyWi is suing Qwest Communications for alleged anticompetitive business practices. The Denver-based phone company cut connections last month that provided Internet service to more than 13,000 SkyWi customers. The commission later ordered Qwest to restore the service. Last fall, SkyWi acquired another company that owed Qwest nearly $2 million, a debt Qwest wants SkyWi to repay.
