New Edge Networks Adds Access Options

03/02/2009

New Edge Networks, the business communications unit of EarthLink Inc., has announced two new access options, private Ethernet and public IP Security (IPsec), that integrate into New Edge’s nationwide MPLS network backbone.

In addition to DSL, T1, DS3 and wireless, customers can now access the New Edge nationwide MPLS private network via an Ethernet connection and over the public Internet with IPsec.

“Customers can select MPLS where DSL, T1, Ethernet, or EVDO are available at the right price, and then use IPsec for locations to blend public and private access solutions. By doing so, customers receive a single, secure network environment at a very cost-effective price point,” said Greg Griffiths, vice president of marketing for New Edge. “In today’s economy, New Edge is providing businesses with the flexibility to deploy their networks to get more bandwidth for the buck.”

New Edge’s IPsec provides a transparent extension of a customer’s private MPLS based network, whereby remote locations can access the core MPLS network securely over any public internet connection. With IPsec, data is encrypted and authenticated for secure connectivity over any Internet connection, creating a secure transmission tunnel between the Customer Premise Equipment and the network router.
