Midnight Deadline for Comcast Net Management Disclosure
BobWallace
09/19/2008 The clock is almost done ticking down as Comcast Corp. (CMCSA) has until midnight tonight to detail for the FCC its past and future plans for performing network bandwidth management. The cable colossus was caught throttling P2P traffic in the name of network management, raising the ire of consumer rights and privacy groups, as well as the FCC and many legislators. Comcast recently began e-mailing customers notifying them of changes to its Acceptable Use Policy that will take effect Oct. 1. They include a monthly maximum use of 250 gigabytes, which, if exceeded twice in a six-month period, results in a one-year loss of service. Comcast is appealing an FCC ruling from Aug. 1 that found the company’s bandwidth throttling unlawful. It’s unclear if Comcast will comply with the order requiring it to disclose how it has and will perform network management.
