NXTcomm: Kontron, Astute Networks Deliver ATCA Storage Platform For Edge-Level Content

Astute Networks is a venture-funded company focused on bladed storage solutions for the communications market. Together, the companies will showcase their work at NXTcomm.

One thing we saw in working with Kontron was the opportunity to bring some products to market that could really provide integrated solutions to the telco and the media sectors,” said Mike Heumann, vice president of sales and marketing for Astute Networks.

The companies are addressing the complexities that some associate with today’s FibreChannel storage/server solutions. The result is a lower cost solution without the headaches and deployment hassles, Heumann said. “Second, [our] focus was to bring to market an easy-to-scale solution that was powerful enough to enable high-fidelity, high-resolution delivery of services and content.”

This follows news from Kontron last week that it and chipmaker Surf Communication Solutions announced the completion of a fully validated AdvancedTCA-AdvancedMC fixed-mobile media server platform. The companies will offer a commercial-off-the-shelf, high-availability platform for IP-based media processing applications that support content delivery subscriber services including IPTV, VoD and Mobile TV.
