Juniper Offers Holistic Security Solution

New Gateways Deliver Firewall, IPS, DoS Protection, NAT & QoS in One

A new security architecture and related line products unveiled today by Juniper Networks Inc. (JNPR) dynamic services gateways known as the SRX 5600 and 5800, which run on Juniper’s existing JUNOS operating system. Security features supported by these products include stateful firewall, Intrusion Prevention System (IPS), Distributed Denial of Service (DDos/DoS) protection, Network Address Translation (NAT), dynamic routing, and Quality of Service (QoS).

Here’s the differentiator, according to Juniper, which said that it has created an entirely new product category: Rather than offering these various security features on different cards, Juniper supports all of the above on each card.

Both the SRX 5800 and the SRX 5600 employ services processing cards and input/output cards that are enabled by the terabit speed fabric employed in the dynamic services gateways, which Juniper said allows for “massive scale of Ethernet ports and services processing.” So, rather than being service-specific, the cards (which can be used across the SRX line) are “horsepower specific,” explained Brian Lazear, director of product management, high-end security systems.

The SRX 5800 ─ which can be configured to support more than 400gbps interfaces with choices of gigE or 10gigE ports ─ can support more than 120gbps of stateful firewall throughput and up to 30gbps of IPS, as well as 350,000 connections per second. The SRX 5600 can support up to 60gbps stateful firewall and 15gbps IPS.

The list price for the 5800 chassis starts at $68,000. Base list price for the 5600 chassis starts at $65,000. Services processing cards and input/output cards pricing starts at $100,000.
